Canada Light Coat
Often a light-weight kit is not much lighter than a standard hunting kit . A few pounds does not make much of a difference and often the slimming of a product affects the quality. However, Canada Light from Chevalier works in both ways. A proper light-weight and simple to use kit with both strength and function. There have been many different hunting jackets on the market throughout the years, but the question is: Has Canada Light not come closer than anyone to the ideal garment for hunting?
It passed the belt bag test perfectly. When it’s folded the jacket takes up very little space so in my Haglöfs Tight I still had room for a small Thermos, a bottle of water and a packed lunch. The jacket in short in design with thin material and is totally wind and waterproof because the membrane is laminated througout. The special short micro-fibre gives a soft and near-silent fabric that won’t rustle. The trousers are waterproof too and will stay dry even if the day is spent in wet woods. The only negative point is the elastic in the cuffs. They are too tight which reduces the ventilation when you get warm. It also means that when there is extreme rain a lot of water can get trapped, cooling the wrists. For improved ventiltaion it would be desirable to have a two-way zip.
In conclusion, we give it the thumbs up. The whole kit feels like a super-light shell which protects well against the elements when hunting.
Judgement:
Positives: Light, wind and waterproof, waterproof zips, the jacket fits in a belt-bag.
Negatives: No two-way zip, the elastic cuffs (a mistake which could have been easily avoided).
